The Outsiders

This story is set in Tulsa, Oklahoma during the 1960s.

“Ponyboy can count on his brothers. And on his friends. But not on much else besides trouble with the Socs, a vicious gang of rich kids whose idea of a good time is beating up “greasers” like Ponyboy. At least he knows what to expect –until the night someone takes things too far.” 

This fictional story is about friendship, honor, being a part of a group, and what it means to be an outsider. The author (was 15 years old when she wrote it) states the purpose of the book is to share that sticking to “social norms” is not always the right thing to do.
